Expectations and Responsibilities in the Classroom
Class Expectations and Responsibilities:
1. Be Prepared: As a learner, it is your responsibility to come to class with the required materials and assignments. At the beginning of class read the white board and complete work and/or instructions as described. Be in your desk when the second bell rings ready to listen and to learn.
2. Note Package/Binder – A neat and organized binder and completed notes is essential for success.
3. Textbook – you are expected to protect your assigned book from any damage (such as water) and return it in the same condition in which it was lent. The school levies a charge on any damaged or lost textbooks.
4. Be punctual! If late come in very quietly if the door is open or knock once and then wait outside until admitted. Lates are disruptive. If you are late more than three times, you will make up time after school. If you are chronically late, you will be referred to the office.
5. End of Class –. Books should only be closed early if finished assigned work or if directed by teacher to do so.
6. Participate consistently by being an active participant in class discussions by writing notes, answering questions, following instructions and completing assigned work diligently and quietly.
7. Personal Electronic Devices. Phones and other electronic devices are not to be used in class without explicit permission. Phones should only be used for educational purposes. To ensure this is the case, phones will be confiscated at the beginning of each class. They will be in the phone holder at the front of the class. Please make sure your notifications are silenced before turning in your phone.
8. Be polite and Responsible! Respect your classmates and environment. By listening attentively during classes, working quietly when assigned work and raising your hand to respond to questions during lessons. Clean up after yourself and respect classroom materials, desks etc. If you notice damage to classroom equipment or desks please inform teacher.
9. My classroom is a place of learning. Your behavior is at all times to be courteous and industrious. Rudeness, disruptive activities and lack of effort will not be accepted. If you cannot meet these requirements, you will be sent to the hall or referred to the office.
10. Food, pop and other beverages are not allowed in class except with permission. Open drinks or food brought into the class without prior permission will be taken away.
11. Hall Passes: In general, students are discouraged from leaving the classroom during class time unless there is some emergency. The only reason for leaving the classroom is to use the washroom. It is encouraged that students use the facilities before class begins. Students in good standing at the appropriate time can ask to be excused. You are not allowed to leave the class during the first or the last 10 minutes of class.
12. Quizzes are given frequently to review material covered. If you miss a quiz it must be made up during Flex time or on your return or as discussed with teacher.
13. Tests: Tests are given at the end of each chapter or as described by teacher. I will give you at least 2 days warning before an upcoming unit test. Regular attendance, completion and correction of assigned work and quizzes is important for success on these tests. If you miss a test, you will write it on an I day at the end of the semester, where you will write a different version. Test will be returned, if a student requests, at Flex time or afterschool. Students must return the test once they have finished looking at it.
14. Academic Honesty: Work you submit for homework, projects or assignments must be your own. Do not copy or allow others to copy work from you. Tests and quizzes show your knowledge and skill level. When asked to mark other classmate’s work do so carefully without altering answers provided. Cheating of any form is a serious offence and will result in a mark of zero, a referral to the administrator and/or a call home.
I look forward to teaching you and hope you have a wonderful Semester!!
